Digi Charat Manga

There are three flavors in which you can purchase the DiGi Charat manga- Japanese, Viz, and Broccoli.
[Yes, I realize that only one of those is a valid flavor]
There is also one additional flavor, that you can sample online. Studiorobb.com is producing the English-language version of "Dejiko's Champion Cup Theatre" and you can sample the first chapter on the site.

Japanese DiGi Charat Manga- MSRP: varies, usually between $6-14 US
This flavor of manga is DiGi Charat in the raw, at it's finest. Unfortunately, it's hard to understand [unless you are Japanese/know Japanese] but it does have the redeeming quality of having every DiGi Charat Manga ever printed. Even if you can't understand it, the images make it worth the while. Your local anime shop or any Japanese-language site has them available for ordering. It's like eating your favorite food, and it always tastes the same- delicious!

Viz DiGi Charat Manga- MSRP: $12.95
This flavor was a bit disappointing. Although it is nice to have the first few manga anthologies in English, the translation process lost most of the 'Japanese' flavor the originals had. Although, to their credit, they did do a reprint to correct the mistake of translating all the Nyo's and Nyu's as 'Meow' [Which I hear was obnoxious, but never experienced, thank goodness! ^^;] and they included liner notes, but they included them at the end of the book, which was rather pointless. another nice thing is that they printed the books in Japanese format, and left all the SFX in Japanese. [However, another liner note translated them all at the end, again, pointless] It's like eating a frozen food pasta dish that claims to be homemade tasting- you set your mouth for the homemade flavor, and as you eat it, realize that it's just not the same as homemade pasta...

Broccoli DiGi Charat Manga- MSRP: $9.99
As the original publisher of the DiGi Charat Manga series', you would suspect that they would produce the most accurate translations and setup of the DiGi Charat series. You would be right! Broccoli Books USA has produced several superb English-translated DiGi Charat Manga, mostly in the DiGi charat Theatre Series. They kept the characters true, explained things as they happened, and included TONS of bonus material with their books. Plus, being $3 cheaper than the Viz DiGi Charat Manga, they are a great deal for your money! This is the yummiest DiGi Charat manga flavor you can get, besides the Japanese Flavor, of course. It's like finding out that your favorite soda comes in diet and it tastes just like the original. So much, in fact, that if no one told you it was diet, you'd never know.

Studio Robb/Ironcat DiGi Charat- MSRP: $10
They only have one flavor of DiGi Charat Manga, "Dejiko's Champion Cup Theatre", an anthology completely drawn by Koge Donbo. The publication, and touchup work is great! It looks super nice. The only problem is...they make the whole cast talk like VALLEY GIRLS! It feels strange, and is completely...obnoxious. I realize Dejiko, in Japanese talks weird, and slurrs, and things of that nature, but to translate it as Valley Girl??? It doesn't work, and gives the work a completely wrong feel. It's like eating stale chips- they're edible, ok, but they're a little off and you'd rather just open a new bag.
